Meet the Rejoiners – what’s behind the boomerang effect?

Rejoiners, are returning employees.

We’ve noticed a happy trend: employees leaving Axis for other opportunities often return. What makes it so hard to stay away? We chatted to three Axis “rejoiners” to find out.

We always support career growth, even if that means people pursuing opportunities elsewhere. For David Wilson in the U.S., Elvis Barudzija in Sweden, and Evonne Tsai in North Asia, this was the case when they temporarily left Axis. But while they were away, they each had this niggling feeling that they still had more to achieve with us and so decided to rejoin.

An opportunity for growth

The diversity of roles at Axis means that returning employees can dive into a new position or continue to develop along their original path. David transitioned from Field Sales Engineer to Systems & Solutions Architect, while Evonne, originally in Business Development, jumped at the chance to return as Technical Manager for North Asia. Elvis came back to pursue his passion as a Senior Software Engineer, but he described his tasks as quite different today, “In my first role, I was developing the core functionality of our products, but now I’m building our products from scratch.”

Reasons to return

For all three, company culture tops the list. David explained, “I was out of Axis for about nine months, and I quickly realized that I missed the culture and how Axis focuses on the well-being of their people.” Evonne echoed this, “I have always strongly identified with the people and culture at Axis, and after I left, I often found myself missing the three core values: Act as One, Always Open, Think Big.” Elvis added, “You have this culture where everyone helps out, and we are there for each other.” Elvis also noted that while Axis has grown significantly since he first started, it still has a small-company culture where “everyone knows and respects each other.”

The rejoiners also value the trust and responsibility they are given. David remarked, “Axis has all the hallmarks of a well-led company. I’m given responsibility, but at the same time, my Management Team are super easy to talk to, and if I ever have a challenge or question, they’re always willing to jump in.”

A company to be proud of

The Axis mission and products were pivotal to this trio’s return; Evonne told us that they “Make my work feel meaningful.” Elvis went further, “When you go somewhere like an airport, and you see an Axis camera, you feel proud; even my kids have started to notice them now!” For Elvis, the knowledge and expertise behind our products also create a unique company, “The engineering skills that exist at Axis are unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere else.”
