When preparing for a job interview, your focus is not only on what you can offer a company but also on what the company can offer you – like professional growth and support. At Axis in Americas, our Industry Relations team empowers employees with tools and strategies to thrive in the physical security industry. Learn how our team helps build your professional brand and career at Axis! Are you ready to get engaged?

To dig a bit deeper into how this setup works, we spoke to three members of the Industry Relations team at Axis in Americas: James Marcella, Director, Industry Relations, Sherri Gray, Program Manager, Industry Relations and Dave McCarthy, Program Manager, Government Relations.

James Marcella, Director, Industry Relations.

We started by asking James, who leads the Industry Relations Team, to describe the team’s daily work and how they contribute to both employees’ personal growth and company’s overall success. “Our goal is to position Axis as a thought leader by engaging with industry associations and influencing key standards and legislation.“

Through active participation in committees, working groups, and advisory boards, we not only shape industry conversations but also help our employees build their career and personal brand. These associations offer leadership opportunities, professional development, certifications, and access to critical industry insights.

Proactive Engagement and Career Growth

Sherri, the Program Manager for the Industry Relations Team continues, “We’ve seen the impact that proactive involvement in industry associations can have on both business success and personal career growth. However, many professionals don’t know where to start or how to align their engagement with their goals. That’s why we offer a program to guide our employees through association memberships, from getting started to pursuing leadership roles.”

Government Relations is crucial

But, says Dave, our work isn’t limited to industry associations. Dave, who is responsible for Government Relations explains, “We also provide a Government Relations Program designed to focus on several public policy issues and developments. This ensures all employees at Axis stay on top of critical industry standards and are prepared with strategies to address any potential regulatory hurdles. In addition, the team works with both internal and external stakeholders to identify the myriad grant funding opportunities available for our end-customers and assist them in applying for those funds.”

The Government Relations Program at Axis is an effort to identify risks and opportunities within federal, state, and local governments and navigate them to strengthen sales enablement. By working with policymakers, the Program is able to identify governmental regulatory compliance mandates, defend and promote the greater security industry in the legislative process and secure thought leadership opportunities at governmental forums.

Dave continues to describe why this it is so important for employees at Axis to have this information. “Many of our end customers conduct significant amounts of business with federal, state, and local governments. It is vital that employees at Axis have the necessary governmental compliance information and guidance along with opportunities to help our customers and secure more government business.”

In 2023 we saw federal and state governments take significant action on several policy issues impacting the security industry, and 2024 will be no different. As a result, it’s critical for our team to keep the greater Axis community apprised of the policies we anticipate will be raised in this new year.

Why the Industry Relations Team´s work matters

James, Sherri and Dave agree that “The Industry Relations team is here to support both our employee´s leadership development and their engagement in the physical security industry. We’ll encourage them to maximize their association membership potential and provide them with valuable industry insights and educational materials to share with their network. And we’ll stand proudly alongside them as they elevate their personal brand and establish themself as trusted advisors and credible resources within the community.”
