What is your role at Axis?

My role at Axis is the Sales Effectiveness Program Director. It’s a long title, but it essentially involves training salespeople and sales teams at Axis for professional sales development. This includes our Axis Sales Methodology.

Axis Sales Methodology provides salespeople at Axis with framework for sales conversations with our channels, distributors, end-customers, and colleagues. It offers a framework of practical, repeatable, and scalable skills across Axis, expressed through the lens of our Core Values and unique Culture.

Steve’s experience at Axis

Having worked at Axis for over 15 years, I’ve overseen numerous sales meetings and opportunities. By leveraging my skills and knowledge, I share real-life stories and best practices with my sales colleagues. Our in-person sessions are excellent for information exchange, breakout sessions, and role-playing. The material sticks better because it’s delivered by a peer in the same industry and same company.

What does your team do?

In addition to Sales Methodology, our team assists salespeople with a sophisticated onboarding process and ensures future development and education. We have created an inside sales playbook to help navigate best practices, ensuring everyone speaks a common language.

How do you inspire and motivate each other in the team?

We inspire each other by being supportive, creative, and learning from one another. We think big, considering both short-term and long-term benefits. We constantly ask ‘why’ to understand the importance of our actions. By interviewing and receiving feedback from the field, we create content that maximizes the learning experience. We are lifelong learners at Axis, applying what we learn through a blend of e-learning, webinars, and in-person sessions.

It makes no sense to create content that won’t be applicable in real-life scenarios. By listening to our sales teams, we create content based on our industry’s sales cycle and products.

What can someone who joins the Axis Sales Team expect?

They can expect a formal process of sales training that extends beyond onboarding. Through our recently introduced Axis Sales Academy, they will be able to access content on podcasts, elevator pitches, videos, and e-learning to name a few. We provide tools and remove obstacles so they can focus on selling. Our training emphasizes long-term connections with customers, understanding their situations, and providing the best solutions.

What opportunities for career development does Axis offer for sales professionals?

We offer custom tracks based on your role and existing knowledge, which I call the ‘learning journey.’ It’s about identifying your current skills and where you want to be, filling those gaps. Axis provides mentorship opportunities and bonuses for obtaining industry certifications, such as the PSP (Physical Security Professional) through ASIS®. During my tenure, I’ve seen many internal promotions, from inside sales to regional sales managers and beyond. With the willingness to learn and improve, the sky is the limit at Axis.
