Axis APAC: Where work meets fun and togetherness
January 30, 2025

At Axis, we believe that fun is a key ingredient for success in our daily work lives. Across our Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, we seamlessly blend work and enjoyment to drive creativity, innovation, collaboration, and build strong relationships. From team outings to spontaneous activities, discover how our fun-driven culture is shaping a dynamic workplace!
We embrace this fun ethos across all our Axis regions, but we picked our Asia-Pacific (APAC) region as a great example and spoke to three colleagues driving the fun agenda! Joining the conversation where Cindy Wee (HR Director, APAC), Amanda Lee (HR Business Partner, South Asia Pacific), and Theodore Ren (Sales Engineer, China).
Something for everyone
A “fika” break with colleagues in the middle of the workday or a weekend camping trip in the great outdoors: That’s the breadth of how we define having fun together. Cindy explains that across the APAC region, there are both formal and informal social activities, i.e., those organized by HR and those organized by interested coworkers. The formal activities include kick-offs, competitions, year-end parties, and sports. Theodore notes a standout HR event recently was a Family Day, where children could come and see what their parents do at work.
Employees often initiate the informal activities, and in some offices, like Shanghai, they have formed a Social Recreation Committee. This group comprises employees from different department, including R&D and Sales who organize recreational or social activities such as a basketball club, badminton club, ping pong matches, or after-work get-togethers.
Building strong relationships
Why is having fun such an essential aspect of the Axis company culture? Theodore gives his perspective, “I think when you socialize, it fosters creativity and collaboration, helps bridge cultural differences, and creates a sense of belonging. I also see that when employees are happy, it ripples out to our customers and creates stronger relationships with them.”
Amanda has a similar take on this, “People succeed when they’re doing what they enjoy and are happy. It also strengthens working relationships. For example, because many of our activities are open to all departments, the ice is already broken when a cross-functional project comes up, and you feel like you know each other.”
“At Axis, we don’t look at people as just tools to get results,” Cindy adds. “We want to create an environment where people are happy to come to work. We also focus on our employees’ mental well-being, and fun is an important part of that.”
Our best moments
So, what’s been the most standout memory for our ambassadors of fun? For Theodor, it was hands down a recent camping trip where he and a few colleagues left the hustle and bustle of Shanghai to relax for a night under the stary countryside skies.

Cindy and Amanda can hardly contain their laughter as they recall the experience that bonded them and a few colleagues. “We were on a business trip in Okinawa, Japan,” explains Cindy. “We’d heard about this great coffee spot in the middle of nowhere, so we took a taxi out there.” Amanda continues, “Yeah, we had a great coffee, but then we couldn’t find a taxi back; we ended up having a beautiful but long walk back where we all chatted and got to know each other along the way.”
