Discover the thriving After-Hours Culture at Axis!
October 17, 2024

Curious about what happens at Axis offices worldwide when we’re not innovating for a smarter, safer world? In our new “Axis All Areas” series, we explore the exciting hobby groups, clubs, and communities our colleagues have built across the globe. First of all, we want to highlight and explore the culture and environment we foster here at Axis, that allows and encourages employees to take the initiative in creating and running their own after-hours communities.
We spoke with two dynamic managers from Information Systems and Global Sales to delve into how we nurture this vibrant culture and why it matters; Maria Malmborg, Manager of ERP & PLM Applications and Gunilla Wejfelt, Director of Marketing & Change Leader and deputy VP APAC.

“At Axis, we take great pride in our work culture, which encourages having fun, creativity, diversity, initiative, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. This mindset extends beyond developing and manufacturing products and solutions; we promote the same approach in non-work-related after-hours activities as well,” says Maria.
Fostering a fun culture and diversity through dynamic communities
Axis cultivate a vibrant after-hours culture where our diverse group of people share a wide range of interests, making it easy for anyone to find their niche and connect with others in after-hours clubs and communities. Whether you’ve always wanted to try your hand at board games, photography, or learning a new language, or if you want to share your love of charity work, reading, or art, there’s something for everyone. You can also arrange fun gatherings, get your blood pumping with football, join a choir, dance, cook, or work out—there’s truly something for everyone.
All it takes to establish a new after-hours club or community is someone with the motivation to get it started. These communities are independent and colleague-driven, and with over 4,500 creative and engaged colleagues globally, you’ll quickly find an after-hours community and club that sparks your interest.
For example, Maria and I often join a colleague-led after-hours Core class, held during lunchtime at the Axis gym at the HQ in Lund, Sweden.

Encouraging a fun culture
“By their very nature, our employees are curious and passionate individuals. They bring with them the desire to share knowledge, interests, and experiences. We foster that further by providing the space, the opportunities, and support for our employees to explore and engage in activities beyond work”, says Gunilla.

“By encouraging our employees to explore new or existing hobbies, we see how their excitement and passion enhance the Axis culture. It’s also a fantastic way to connect with people across the organization, build networks, and make friends. A healthy work-life balance and having fun together are crucial to us, and our after-hours communities and clubs exemplify this.” Gunilla continues.
“We’re proud of our culture that encourages non-work-related activities and the high level of participation in our various clubs and communities. The numerous active groups created and shared by our colleagues not only highlight the interest in these activities but also showcase our diversity and our desire to have fun together. No matter how niche your interest is, you’re likely to find a match and colleagues to share it with,” concludes Maria.
